What to Expect
After close to 10 years of creating music I have developed specific skills and workflows that allow me to produce music at a professional level.
The first step in almost any production would be a pre-production meeting so I can best understand the scope of your project. We'll discuss things such as what you plan to accomplish in the studio, how many tracks are going to need to be recorded, and any influences and ideas you have for the production. This doesn't have to be an in-person meeting I'd be more than happy to conduct it over video.
Next, If you'd like to guarantee your session time you can book online and make a deposit right here! Make sure to print out and sign the Client Agreement Form linked at the bottom of the page. I charge per day which means to make the most of your session, you should be well-rehearsed and ready to shred.
On the day of your session you should be well rested, hydrated, and if necessary, warmed up as well. Being a singer myself I often take my vocalists through a quick warm up session just to be sure they're ready to nail the take. Guitarists are encouraged to restring before any session and also bring a set for backup in case of breaks. Drummers are encouraged to bring extra sticks.
Get ready to make some great music! I usually have a fair bit of set up and mic selection done before the session but I will need some time to place any mics and set preamp levels before hitting record. After that we're off to the races!
I usually take a 10 minute break every two hours to rest my ears, but I know how strenuous performing can be, don't be afraid to ask for a fiver to breathe, drink some water, stretch etc. I will always push the artists I work with to deliver the best take I know they can give me, after all this is your art and I want you to be able to take pride in what we create together.
Once everything that needs to be recorded has been recorded, I'll start editing and mixing the project. Because I can sometimes have many clients that I'm working with at once, please allow up to 7 days for me to get you your first mix. Though it normally doesn't take that long. After that be sure to listen to your mix on a variety of different systems (headphones, car, laptop speakers, etc.) to ensure the quality is to your liking. I will provide up to three revisions of your mix so it's always best to be very specific about any changes you want to be made on your first revision request.
Once the mix is to your liking, It's yours to do with as you please. Though I am not a mastering engineer I can provide you with a loud and ready-for-streaming version that will be competitive with today's standards.
